The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (the Commission) launched the new Venous Thromboembolism Prevention Clinical Care Standard on Thursday 11th October at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, to coincide with World Thrombosis Day. Download the Standard here.
This clinical care standard offers guidance to clinicians, health services and consumers on blood clot prevention methods and the importance of ongoing care after a patient leaves hospital.
The new standard clarifies appropriate care, such as assessing risk, developing a prevention plan, partnering with patients, monitoring for complications and ongoing care.
The standard has been endorsed by THANZ as well as other professional and consumer bodies including the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, the Australian Orthopaedic Association and the Australian College for Emergency Medicine.
